From my friend Glenda:
"STORY is the primary way we impart what really matters to the next generation. Stories have the potential to embody biblical and theological content in ways that sink into the imagination, take root, and grow."
-- Sarah Arthur
I agree with the value of Story as a means of communicating values down through the generations. However, I think that far too often, we Christians find ourselves so focused on the Story that we miss or ignore the Meaning.

I seem to spend half my internet time defending the Left against the Right, and the other half defending the Right against the Left. Considering the fact that I really don't like either of them, maybe I should just play World of Warcraft instead.

Embracing non-violence necessarily involves renouncing political power as a means to ends. It is no more spiritually edifying for a person to demand that a cop or soldier employ violence on his behalf than it is to employ said violence himself.

It saddens me that so many on the Right will pay lip-service to the non-violent advocacy of Jesus, and those on the Left will do the same for Gandhi or Martin Luther King, yet both are blind to the hypocrisy of continually advocating violence through government. For all the supposed differences between them and all the high-sounding rhetoric dressing up their advocacy, their politics spring from the same spiritual sickness: a visceral desire for power and control over their fellow human beings.

If individuals cannot be trusted with a given technology, what makes us suppose that governments can?
